One Name A Lifetime
Every pregnancy is different. So is every birth and most importantly every child. The events new parents face before and after all vary in many ways. But one task all parents face no matter who they are or which country they call home. This is the exciting search for the perfect name for your precious new life. Millions of names from A to Z, so how do you go about finding the right name for your baby?
Several things need to be held into consideration before you begin choosing a name.
• How many other people do you know with the same name? If your last three friends have all named their baby Christopher, you might not want to do the same.
• Does this name have a bad reputation? When your baby grows up he or she might not like having the same name as the mass murderer of the century.
• Find a name that fits your baby. Before I was born, my name was supposed to be Danielle. But as a 3.5 lb. redhead, Danielle just didn't fit.
• Be careful with possible nicknames from the name itself or the initials. Your child might not appreciate initials that actually spell words.
• The basic thing to remember is that whatever you name your child is the name they will most likely live with the rest of their life.
The first option is naming your baby after yourself or your mate, but not everyone wants a child nicknamed Junior. You can also use the names of grandparents or other relatives, but you do risk hurting someone's feelings, a precarious position for family reunions.
Baby name books are available by the dozens. Several of these books are worth the look.
• The Greatest Baby Name Book Ever by Carol McD. Wallace. This book lists thousands of boy names and girl names. It also begins with an introduction to the history of names and the importance of our names.
• Beyond Jennifer, Jason, Madison & Montana by Pamela Redmond Satran and Linda Rosenkrantz. These writers take a unique look at the fashion of names, what's in and what's out. They also discuss the image you will create for your baby with certain names.
• 15,000 Baby Names by Bruce Lansky. This book includes names from cultures around the world according to racial, ethnic, and religious backgrounds. It also includes the origins and meanings of the names, as well as a cross- referencing system to lead you to related or similar names.
